Picture doesn’t show it that well but the GX470 is a handsome shade of blue called Blue Meridian Pearl.
The 4.7 under the hood sounds outstanding with the aftermarket exhaust
Stock tires on the GX are a tad pedestrian but I am hoping the center diff, atrac, hill decent, and other goodies will get me through most of the rough stuff. Now to find a off road trail to see what this Land Crusier in a suit can really do...

I WANT IT... Except in Silver Pine Metallic. You are going to love that truck though but watch out... 2UZ’s have gotten me twice as many tickets as my 1UZ.

Yeah it’ll do fine on whatever off-roading you throw at it totally stock.

Noted on the ticket issue.
And ohh that silver pine is outstanding. Didn’t see one of those when I was shopping.

I would hope so. This is supposed to be one of Toyota’s best off-road vehicles.

Oh hell yes, son!

Very, very rare. I’ve only ever seen 2 and I live in a Lexus heaven.

Lexus: One of the last purveyors of ambiguous-color luxury car metallic paint.

I’m pretty damn excited about it. Can’t wait to see how it does on the dirt.

How many blue do you see in Lexus heaven?

Someone has to keep the tradition going.

Also with pretentious names.
“Caviar” (metallic black)
“Starfire” (white)
“Nightfall” (dark blue)

I’ve literally been staring at one all day long.
![]() 10/25/2016 at 19:31 |

Not a ton since most are silver but probably like 10. I wonder if the internet has how many of each color in each year were produced. Hmm...
![]() 10/25/2016 at 19:32 |

How much do they want... And how much rust is on it.
![]() 10/25/2016 at 19:34 |

I don’t think it’s for sale. It’s been in customer parking all day with plates on it. So I’m assuming it’s spoken for.

Probably somewhere. No idea where but I’m sure somewhere

If mine doesn’t have an owners manual can I get one from the dealership?
![]() 10/25/2016 at 19:46 |

Do you think the color looks as good as I do?
![]() 10/25/2016 at 20:01 |

Toyota pearls look great...until you have to color match them. Great stuff though, now get some at tires and go play
![]() 10/25/2016 at 20:08 |

I hate to do that when these tires are actually brand new from the dealer.

It’s pretty good. Atomic Silver is better overall (yes I know that that wasn’t a color until 2014, but still)
![]() 10/25/2016 at 20:48 |

That’s a great question...
...for the parts department.

Atomic Silver is amazing. I bet it’s a pita to get fixed.

You can always sell them.

Congratulations!
I drove the Prado version of these extensivley for about a 3 month period, exclusively on dirt. Loved that truck. Tough too (proper J chassis designation and all that).
Agree with the sentiments that it will be plenty capable off road with the standard tyres, unless there is a lot of mud. However, something to consider, I now run one set of wheels with an RT tyre (normally the fatory alloy), and then an in-expensive set of pressed steel wheels with proper off-road tyres on. The RT’s stay on for road and light duty stuff. If you know it is going to get tough, or you will be off road for a while bolt the real deal on, that way you don’t wear down your off road tyres driving around on the road 90% of the time. The edges stay nice and sharp, so they perform well off road. Once they are about half worn, the off road performance drops off marketedly.

Nice! Great trucks and a great engine! Pull those sidesteps when you head out the first time if you get a chance and enjoy. I’ve put lifts on many friends GX470's.
It’s the perfect version of the Toyota 120 chassis in my opinion. Maximum headroom with the best engine available, fully boxed frame and made in Japan. Enjoy!

I was very tempted by this before I bought my Titan.
![]() 10/26/2016 at 07:36 |

Thank you! I’m glad to hear you like the Prado and hopefully the Prado’s capabilities are more or less identical to the GX.
I have considered doing something like that. Buy a nice set of used off road tires for side use.

Quick question. When lifting the GX did you have to remove the air suspension?
If you did remove the air how hard is it to swap in traditional coil springs?
![]() 10/26/2016 at 07:38 |
|
Should of done it! They are so nice on the inside.
What year is your Titan? Those are handsome trucks.
![]() 10/26/2016 at 09:51 |
|
Both. On one truck we followed another persons instructions to “trick” the air ride height setting to be in the lifted state at all times. Then we put on some nicer shocks. In the front we did coilovers on all of them.
For the rear we’ve used the Metaltech kit a couple times and one guy just took a bolt/nut/piece of metal from the Hardware store and made his own spring retainer. http://www.metaltech4x4.com/p-1547-gx470-rear-coil-conversion-diy-kit.aspx

Mud and Expedition Portal are good sources, but nothing beats the chassis specific forum of www.toyota120.com for questions.
Do you have KDSS?
![]() 10/26/2016 at 10:23 |
|
I do not have KDSS which is sad because of a lack of articulation. But at the same time is great if I ever do decide to lift it.
My big fear is the air suspension breaking down. But it appears the aftermarket support is there and a conversion is available if that ever happens.
![]() 10/26/2016 at 11:46 |
|
The nice thing is that anything you may run into someone has already figured out. KDSS is nice, but I wouldn’t worry about it. If you disconnect yoru sway bars on a tough trail you have the same wheel travel.
I would just run the air bags until you lift it. If you do, pull the system out and never look back.

I would always be tempted to pull every bit of plastic off of it. It’s svelt truck under all of that stuff, but of course it’s best to leave it alone and just enjoy it too. :-)
![]() 10/26/2016 at 12:12 |
|
Thanks for the link. And I don’t mind the plastic as much. I think the truck looks good as it is. But I am contemplating pulling the running boards. Time will tell.

Congrats on the new ride! Looks awesome.

I have a buddy with a GX470. He’s upgraded the suspension, exhaust and front bumper.
He’s taken it to all the places the rest of us Toyota guys go.
This is taken on one of the easier trails at Barnwell Mountain in Texas.
It’s the only one I have of him all the way on the trail.

Thank you I appreciate the compliment

That looks like a great time. Glad to see a GX off-road like that. The lift on it looks great too. Also it looks to be the same color of blue.
What were you using to shoot that day? A Go Pro?
![]() 10/26/2016 at 15:45 |
|
I have a Go Pro hero (The basic one they offered for about a year) and a Faux Pro from China.
Both work great, the faux pro records in a MOV format, whereas the real one is MP4 format.

I have a Hero as well. I need to use it more...
